Sample Itinerary
Day 1 DEPART FOR SPAIN - We board our jet this evening for a comfortable overnight flight to Madrid, Spain.
Day 2 MADRID
Your escort is waiting to welcome you upon arrival in Madrid, and assist you to your motorcoach to transfer to your hotel for the next two nights. The rest of the day is free to relax and explore your new surroundings. This evening enjoy a welcome dinner at the hotel. (D)
Day 3 MADRID SIGHTSEEING
A morning of sightseeing shows you the highlights of Madrid. You will visit the historic downtown section, including a visit inside the Royal Palace. This breathtaking palace is no longer a residence for the Spanish Royal family, but it is still used for special ceremonies. You will be amazed not only by the size, but also by the beauty of this palace. Inside you will find tapestries, frescoes and sculptures, which have been created by master artists. Outside you will fall in love with the beautiful gardens. The afternoon is at your leisure for shopping or you may want to take time to visit the Prado Museum. Originally established as the “Royal Museum of Painting and Sculpture” by King Ferdinand VII, the museum now holds a collection of paintings from the 12th through the 20th Centuries. (B)
Day 4 MADRID – GRANADA
This morning you will depart for Granada. Along the way will be a sightseeing stop in Toledo, the ancient former capital of Spain. You will visit the Chapel of St. Tome, where you will see the masterpiece of El Greco, “The Death of Orgaz.” Next it’s on to Granada for a two- night stay. Tonight, enjoy dinner at the hotel. (B, D)
Day 5 GRANADA SIGHTSEEING
This morning you will be treated to a tour of the Alhambra Palace. This pink-gold palace, perched atop a hill is not only the most important, but also the best-conserved Arabian palace of its time. You will also visit the Generalife Gardens, which border the palace. Constructed in the early 14th century, the gardens still conserve their original shaping and have inspired many musicians and authors. (B)
Day 6 GRANADA –CORDOBA- SEVILLE
Today, you depart for Seville with a stop in historic Cordoba, where a local guide will take you on a tour of the Mosque/Cathedral. The famous Mosque remains one of Spain’s best examples of its Moorish heritage. You will also see the Calle De Las Flores and the Monument of Maimonides, then it’s off to Seville. This evening you will dine at the hotel. (B, D)
Day 7 SEVILLE SIGHTSEEING
This morning you will explore this lovely city on a sightseeing tour that takes you to the Cathedral, the world’s largest Gothic building and the burial place of Christopher Columbus. You will also visit the quaint old Santa Cruz Quarter and the beautiful Maria Luisa Park. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure. (B)
Day 8 SEVILLE-LISBON
Today, you will depart Seville and drive through the two agricultural provinces of Spain and Portugal. Along the way, you will pass charming farming villages and olive tree plantations. Upon arrival in Lisbon, enjoy a panoramic city tour, including Uptown and Downtown, the Jeronimos Monastery, the Belem Tower and the Discoveries Monument. (B)
Day 9 LISBON
Today, we depart for the beautiful medieval town of Obidos, protected by its perimeter wall. Next, it’s on to Nazare, one of the most colorful Portuguese fishing villages. After some time for souvenir shopping, proceed to Fatima, the center of Christian faith and pilgrimages. The sanctuary of Fatima, which is the second most famous in the world, is set in a landscape of green hills, dotted with windmills. You will visit Fatima’s Basilica of Our Lady of The Rosary and the Little Chapel of Apparitions. Later this afternoon, return to Lisbon, where you will enjoy a farewell dinner at the hotel. (B, D)
Day 10 LISBON–USA
Depart Lisbon and return home with many unforgettable memories of your trip to Spain and Portugal. (B)
